Ngenzi & Barahira sentenced to life in prison

 

Tito BARAHIRA and Octavien NGENZI were found guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity.

They were both sentenced to life in prison on July 6, after  a two-month trial at the Paris’ Cour d’Assises. There defenders say they will lodge an appeal.

They are two former mayors of Kabarondo in the former prefecture of  Kibungo (East of Rwanda).

Appeal Trial of Claude MUHAYIMANA

Claude MUHAYIMANA was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court for complicity in genocide and crimes against humanity at his appeal trial which took place from February 3 to 27, 2026. In the initial trial on December 16, 2021, he had been sentenced to the same term. Both the defense and the prosecution had appealed. The sentence is now definitive.
