Appeal Trial of Eugène RWAMUCYO

From June 9 to July 17, 2026, at the Assize Court in Paris

Eugène Rwamucyo was sentenced in a first instance trial to 27 years imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court following a month-long trial from October 1 to October 30, 2024. He was found guilty of complicity to genocide and conspiracy with intention to prepare genocide, as well as complicity in crimes against humanity and conspiracy to prepare such crimes. However, he was acquitted of the charges of genocide and crimes against humanity. He appealed this sentence through his lawyers.

Dr. Eugène Rwamucyo was the subject of a complaint filed by the CPCR on April 23, 2007. In 1994, Dr. Rwamucyo was the director of the University Center for Public Health in Butare (CUSP).

Claude MUHAYIMANA was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment by the Paris Assize Court for complicity in genocide and crimes against humanity at his appeal trial which took place from February 3 to 27, 2026. In the initial trial on December 16, 2021, he had been sentenced to the same term. Both the defense and the prosecution had appealed. The sentence is now definitive.
